Have you ever heard of osteoporosis and wondered what it is? Osteoporosis, also known as brittle bone disease, is one of the most common diseases that affects older people. It can be very painful and cause fractures, deformities in the spine and hips, which makes walking difficult or even impossible.

Osteoporosis is a major public health threat.
Osteoporosis is a disease that causes bones to become weak and break easily. It’s estimated that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men over 50 will develop osteoporosis, which is often called “the silent thief of youth.” The disease costs the U.S. economy $19 billion every year, according to the National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF).
Osteoporosis affects more than 200 million people worldwide, making it one of the most common chronic diseases in both men and women after diabetes, heart disease and cancer. It has been estimated that by 2020, there will be more hip fractures due to osteoporotic bone loss than breast cancer or prostate cancer deaths worldwide.*
Benefits of protect our bones.
Avoiding pain: By keeping our bones strong and healthy, we can avoid the painful and sometimes costly effects of osteoporosis, which is a condition where the bones become weak and more likely to break.
Preventing fractures: Nearly one quarter of all women over 50 will experience a hip fracture in their lifetime. When children reach adulthood, they have an increased likelihood of developing osteoporosis, but it can be prevented through healthy eating and regular exercise.
Improving balance: Osteoporosis increases your risk for falling down stairs or tripping over curbs while walking outdoors. Falls make up 25 percent of all serious injuries that occur in senior citizens every year!
How to keep our bones strong.
Exercise regularly. Exercise is great for bone health because it increases the amount of calcium you absorb from foods and jumpstarts the production of new bone cells. It also prevents muscle loss, which can contribute to osteoporosis.
If you used to have a injured knee joint, then wearing running knee brace while you are exercising can help protect against further injury. This is because the brace will help distribute force across the knee joint as you move. It also provides support for muscles around the injured area.
Eat foods rich in calcium and vitamin D. Calcium triggers the release of a hormone that helps your body absorb more magnesium, another nutrient that’s essential for healthy bones. Vitamin D promotes proper absorption of calcium by supporting activity within certain cells in your digestive tract, which lets them better assimilate nutrients so they can reach your bloodstream where they need to be!
